ROWLAND WINS BOYS HIGH SCHOOL TITLE AT THE BEAR TRACE CLASSIC

Johnson makes strong return; Thomas wins in playoff; Wallace and Sherry share title; Beegle wins; Wade triumphs

High school freshman Alex Rowland (Houston, Miss.) came from two shots down over the final seven holes to win The Bear Trace Classic in Henderson, Tenn.  Rowland, who hit all 28 fairways in the two day event, edged  first round leader Jack Belote (Bartlett, Tenn.), also a freshman,  by one shot.  Taylor Lucas (Collierville, Tenn.) finished third three shots back while Preston McClellan (Memphis, Tenn.) and Nick Faitz (N. Little Rock, Ark.) tied for fourth six shots back.

Rowland made 16 pars and two bogies en route to a final round 74.  He was the USJGT's Junior High Player of the Year last season and established himself as a contender for the High School Division award with his win this weekend.

Baillie Johnson (Counce, Tenn.), making her first appearance in tournament golf since recovering from injuries received in a near-fatal car accident this summer, shot a final round 83 to win the Girls High School title.  Johnson, another high school freshman, shot 41 in the rain-shortened first round.  Johnson has now won every USJGT event entered dating back to the 2002-2003 season.  She has not lost a USJGT event in more than a year.

Cameron Thomas (Germantown, Tenn.) made par on the first hole of sudden death to edge Joseph Webster (Trussville, Ala.) in the Boys Junior High Division.  The win marked Thomas' first win in that age group.

Tucker Wallace (Dickson, Tenn.) and Christopher Sherry (Franklin, Tenn.) were declared co-champions in the Boys Rising Stars division.  The two tied at 118 after 27 holes, but darkness prevented the staging of a playoff.

Brooke Beegle (Fishers, Ind.), after a one year absence from the tour, returned in style winning the Girls Rising Stars division while Kevin Wade (Cordova, Tenn.) garnered his fifth career USJGT win in the Boys Future Stars division.
