COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Marion Golf and Athletic Club is located just 15 minutes from downtown Memphis, Tenn. It is considered one of the most challenging courses in the area because of the numerous water hazards that come into play on virtually every hole. The bent grass greens are considered the best ones in the Mid-South region. Because of its location, the wind often blows at Marion making the course even tougher. We strongly encourage those unfamiliar with the course to play a practice round. You may contact the course at 870-739-6305 to schedule a practice round. Practice rounds are not included in the entry fee .
Please note that there is water on every single hole at Marion and it comes into play regularly. That's why we strongly recommend playing a practice round. The par-3's are particularly difficult, not only because of the water, but because of the undulation of the greens on those holes. Number 11 is considered one of the most difficult par-3's in the Memphis area.
TRAVEL AND HOTELS
Memphis International Airport is only 30 minutes from the course.
We encourage those visitors from out of town to stay in downtown Memphis. There are several hotels from which to choose. Downtown Memphis is one of the nation's most vibrant downtown areas. More than 100 restaurants are located within downtown including the legendary Rendezvous barbecue. Downtown is also home of the FedEx forum, the home facility of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and the nationally ranked University of Memphis Tigers. The Memphis Redbirds, AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, play at Autozone Park, also located downtown.
For more information on downtown Memphis, visit the Memphis Visitors and Convention Bureau website at www.memphistravel.com
Like most urban areas, there are parts of Memphis in which you do not want to stay. If you are unsure, please contact the USJGT and we will be happy to advise you.
QUALIFIER RULES
The winner of each age bracket will receive an invitation to the Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego. All expenses related to that trip are the responsibility of the participant.
Caddies are allowed only in the 7-8 year old division for both boys and girls. No caddies are allowed in any other division.
In the event of a tie, a sudden death playoff will determine the winner. Should darkness or inclement weather prevent the completion of a playoff, the playoff will resume at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 28. If inclement weather prevents the playoff to continue on that date, a scorecard playoff will determine the winner. A hole number will be drawn at random to begin the scorecard playoff. The scorecard playoff will begin with that hole and proceed backwards until a winner is determined.
Spectators are allowed to rent carts and are allowed to shuttle players between holes. No advice is to be given to any participant at any time during the qualifier. This will be strictly enforced.
