Letters from parents about the USJGT (scroll down to read more of them)...
The following is an email we received from Charlie Jones, father of Skip Jones.
Mark & Cliff,
This is Charlie Jones (Skip's Dad) and I wanted to let you both know that this past Thursday, Skip signed his athletic golf scholarship
with Trevecca Nazarene University and will be a member of the men's golf team this coming August !
Skip really enjoyed playing on the United States Junior Golf Tour staring with his first tournament at Kirkwood National in September of 2001
and continuing on through this summer. He learned many of the most important life lessons while playing your tour; integrity, perseverance,
facing challenges, competition at the highest junior level, showing respect to others, humility, maximizing strengths nd improving
weaknesses. Also, one of his most cherished moments was becoming the recipient of the Director's Award for Excellence in Play and
Sportsmanship in 2003-2004. That meant more to him that any of his multiple wins as it recognized his effort to excel in the game
he loves.
Charlene and I can not thank you both enough for your continued support of junior golf and only wish the best for the
both of you and the tour in the future.
Charlie Jones
The following is an e-mail we received from David Belcher, father of Kellye Belcher. Kellye played in USJGT events for five years and was player of the year in her division three times. She will be a freshman at Indiana University making her the first USJGT alum to receive a golf scholarship to a Big 10 school.
Kellye is one of more than 100 USJGT alumni now playing college golf.
Mark and Cliff,
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you both for what you are doing to promote junior golf. Your tour has allowed juniors to play top notch courses in tournament conditions at affordable prices. The boys' field are week in and week out very competitive. While the girls' fields started a little thin, they have recently began to attract better players and larger numbers. I think moving the girl's tees back to 5500 to 5800 yards is a good thing. College coaches want to see the girls play from yardages similar to what they play.
I think it was very important that Kellye played your Tour. It gave her very much needed tournament experience that she could use when she played in National tournaments and Tours. She knew how it felt to be in the lead in a tournament during "crunch time" and gave her the confidence that she could persevere. I don't recall how many USJGT victories she had, but, I feel very strongly that they contributed to her three (3) AJGA and two (2) Exxon-BFI titles.
In closing, I hope to get out and see you at some of your events this fall. If there is anything I can do to help you to promote junior golf, let me know. In the meantime, good luck and God bless.
Go Hoosiers!
Dave Belcher | Eddy Whitaker played on the USJGT for several years and had accepted an academic scholarship to a school in New Mexico. However, that school did not have a golf team. Late in his senior year, Eddy's game began to show rapid improvement. His father contacted the USJGT to see if we knew of any colleges who needed players even with the start of school less than three months of away. Because the staff of the USJGT maintains constant contacts with a variety of college coaches, we directed Eddy to Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee. We knew that Lambuth, a strong academic school, was looking for one or two more players and that the school matched Eddy's academic strength as well. Here's a letter we received from his dad...

Dear Mark and Cliff
The USJGT has been instrumental in Eddy's development as a player. While Eddy was usually in the middle of the pack in the USJGT he was able to see what the better players did to shoot low scores. He had a breakthrough summer winning one two day tournament, with three other top three finishes. When I asked if you knew of any colleges that might still need players, you directed us to a school that not only needed a golfer, but more importantly meets his academic needs. Eddy has been awarded a golf scholarship with Lambuth University in Jackson and will continue his golfing career there in the fall.
The USJGT gave Eddy the opportunity to play on some of the nicest courses in the area, as well as play against top competition at a reasonable price compared to other junior tours. Your knowledge and contacts in the college golf scene has helped him continue his career in golf. I highly recommend the USJGT to any junior golfer who has aspirations of playing at a higher level.
Thank you for your time and efforts and continued good luck with the tour.
Sincerely
Art Whitaker |
Here's a note from a high school coach about the USJGT's sponsorship of their tournament...

To the USJGT,
I would like to thank you once again for a great job with the White Station High School SPARTAN INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT. The help that you give in running the tournament is second to none and is greatly appreciated, not only by myself, but also by the parents of all of the players involved in the tournament.
Parents are constantly complementing our tournament scoreboard and the beautiful trophies that the players are awarded. Your dedication to the athletes in the area helps make the game of golf more enjoyable for both the players and the spectators.
Good luck with all of your future tournaments and thank you again for all that you do for junior golf.
Coach Ed McDugle
